Good on you Mate! Testimonial for a great Aussie

The team at One World were thrilled with a letter we recently received from NAWMA Executive Officer, Brian King.

It is clear that the Aussie Kitchen Mate™ (branded the ‘Jeffries Food Basket’ in NAWMA) is a real winner!

This is what the letter said;

The Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority is currently in the process of issuing to residents, at their request, food organics baskets for the kitchen (marketed as the ‘Aussie Kitchen Mate’).

By all accounts the baskets have proven to be successful in encouraging residents to remove food scraps from the general waste stream and into the garden and food organics collection system.

There is a high degree of satisfaction with the baskets, by way of their appearance, simple and practical design and sturdiness. They blend in well sitting on the kitchen bench with other appliances.

I have no hesitation in recommending the use of the baskets for the collection of food organics in a kitchen.

The Aussie Kitchen Mate™ has arrived

Its here … the simple way to tidy up the kitchen scraps and help the environment by returning them to the earth where they provide nutrition to plants and help save water. With its wide throat design for easy disposal of scraps, the ’stand-up lid’ and generous capacity for small form factor we believe this little Aussie made beauty from One World will be your mate in the kitchen!

Tree Guards

Tree guards are important items to help trees get established without things eating them or the elements claiming them. Petrochemical tree guards are a problem when they blow away and become litter. One World are now offering compostable tree guards that are thick and durable enough to stand up to the elements and if they are blown away will not pollute the environment. Disposal after their useful life is over is simple as they can be composted.

Mulch Film

Save water and suppress weeds the environmentally friendly way with with compostable mulch film. Available in 3-6 month and 6 - 12 month life varieties there is no messy plastic to dispose of after you have finished with it. Made in Australia from the Gold standard Mater-Bi material so you can rest assured it is the genuine article and does compost to become plant food. See the products page for more information.

We are also currently trialing a brand new weed mat made from recycled paper that is rated to last for 2 years before it begins to degrade.

Country Areas Recycling

Recently Geoff and Brian visited many of our rural councils in South Australia to discuss how they manage their waste and recycling.

This is part of an initiative by Zero Waste S.A. and the Local Government Association to better understand the capacity and the value of recycling in country areas. One World Environmental Solutions will help provide country councils with the tools to assist them in considering the key elements required for effective curbside recycling.  Along the way they have discovered some very impressive local efforts in separating and handling recyclables.

Kia Ora!

Geoff has recently been visiting our New Zealand friends and spreading the word on regional subsidiaries & resource sharing in waste management, transport logistics & systems of collection, container deposit legislation & extended producer responsibility, and diversion from landfill including food organics collection systems.

On this whistle-stop tour of the North Island he met with numerous councils and regional organisations in Wellington, Auckland and Whangarei. Meetings were also held with Members of Parliament and officers of the Ministry For the Environment. Hot topics of discussion were KPIs, CDL, Levies, and Making contracting work for all involved. Futurology was also high on the agenda. Many thanks go to the hard working team at Envision New Zealand, especially Warren Snow and Julie Dickinson, for making the arrangements and assisting Geoff on this trip.

Some councils immediately extended an invitation to come back - due to the demand Geoff is planning a return for early 2008!
